چکیده

In this paper, the process of a drop rebounding from hydrophobic and chemically heterogeneous surface is investigated using multiphase lattice Boltzmann method. The bounce behavior drops dependent on degree hydrophobicity heterogeneity surface. When homogeneous, rebounds vertically height increases with enhancement hydrophobicity. For two different parts, laterally toward lower side. Because high side exerts stronger unbalanced Young’s force contact line compared low side, difference forces results in asymmetrical rebound. A phase diagram displays rebound numbers impacting various homogeneous surfaces. simply quantitative estimation made to predict heights flying times through angles This work promotes understanding mechanism provides guiding strategy for precise control lateral by

Nonlinear oscillations of a sessile drop on a hydrophobic surface induced by ac electrowetting.

We examine the nature of ac electrowetting (EW)-driven axisymmetric oscillations of a sessile water drop on a dielectric substrate. In ac EW, small-amplitude oscillations of a drop differ from the Rayleigh linear modes of freely oscillating drops. In this paper, we demonstrate that changes in the time-averaged contact angle of the sessile drop attributed to the presence of an electric field and...

Drop impact on chemically structured arrays

We describe recent investigations on the impact behaviour of liquid drops onto chemically structured surfaces. The surface patterns were prepared via photochemical attachment of polymer molecules with different hydrophilicities using self-assembled monolayers of benzophenone bearing silanes. Immobilization of the polymer monolayers was followed by an ablation process to generate a chemical surf...

Lateral vibration of a water drop and its motion on a vibrating surface.

The resonant modes of sessile water drops on a hydrophobic substrate subjected to a small-amplitude lateral vibration are investigated using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling. As the substrate is vibrated laterally, its momentum diffuses within the Stokes layer of the drop. Above the Stokes layer, the competition between the inertial and Laplace forces causes the formation of capillary...

Drop dynamics on chemically patterned surfaces

– We compare numerical and experimental results exploring the behaviour of liquid drops moving across a surface patterned with hydrophobic and hydrophilic stripes. A lattice Boltzmann algorithm is used to solve the hydrodynamic equations of motion of the drops allowing us to investigate their behaviour as the stripe widths and the wettability contrast are altered. We explain how the motion of t...

Probing surface tension additivity on chemically heterogeneous surfaces by a molecular approach.

Surface free energy of a chemically heterogeneous surface is often treated as an approximately additive quantity through the Cassie equation [Cassie ABD (1948) Discuss Faraday Soc 3:11-16]. However, deviations from additivity are common, and molecular interpretations are still lacking. We use molecular simulations to measure the microscopic analogue of contact angle, Θ(c), of aqueous nanodrops ...
